IN 2013 ICON CO FIRST EMBARKED ON A NEW COMMUNITY CHALLENGE MAKING A COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY AND KIDS OF TYPO STATION, LOCATED IN CHESHUNT, VICTORIA
Evolve operate with the mission of providing a supportive environment for disadvantaged young people to develop into strong, caring and valuable members of the community. The organisation achieves this by conducting a number of programs where young men and women are able to spend time rebuilding and reshaping their foundations and values to build the skill set which allows for accountability, ongoing motivation and decision making. Icon Co contribution and support assisted Evolve through their work at TYPO Station, an old homestead.
Icon Co conducting refurbishment works to the dilapidated mud brick homestead, reviving the space back to a comfortable living environment, which will in turn allows the space to be marketed to the wider community. Evolve now have an alternate income stream with the goal of becoming a self-funded organisation. The revenue from the visitors who stay at the homestead is injected back into the rehabilitation programs run by Evolve which are changing the lives of young individuals.
In August 2013, a keen group of Icon employees hit the road for a weekend of demolition and planning. The two days of manual labour in the fresh air was highly successful, with all the key demolition works performed. Further contract work was completed in order to keep the job moving forward. This included framing and service roughin works.
With the emphasis on getting the project completed by March 2015, there was a real swing of momentum up at Typo Station. Weatherboards, new timber floor and new doors were all completed within weeks. Furthermore a select, special OP’s division of Icon Co, led the charge to give the homestead a real move, including prepping the wet areas, installation of a kitchenette and sanding of the floors. This was all finished up with a great turnout from the Icon Co team to paint the Homestead.
