Project Coordinator at Richmond – A Place to Live, Green Square, Yorkshire Brewery and Arthur Apartments
I grew up exposed to Property and Construction and love it! My father was a Developer, mother was a Draft(wo)man and grandfather was a Domestic Builder. For me, it was about finding a role within industry that suited me. After work experience at an Architect and then a Tier 1 Builder, I knew construction for me was going to be the best of all three.
During my first year at Uni, I undertook a project on Icon Co. During my time onsite with Duncan Knight at 499-503 Malvern Road, Hawksburn, I enjoyed the friendly and young team environment. It was an environment that I was most comfortable in than my time spent with other Tier 1 builders. I also wanted a company that had both construction and property development divisions.
What makes you proud to work at Icon: Hearing the feedback we get from our Clients and seeing the building being used.

I was originally interested in studying Architecture however the year I finished school, RMIT introduced the new Project and Construction Management course which made me think it would be interesting to be involved in the delivery side of construction as oppose to the design.
One of my lecturers recommended the graduate role to me.
Managing a team at Icon along with liaising with the client, consultant’s and subcontractors to ensure that the project is delivered within a set program duration and budget.
The whole process involved in seeing a project develop from tender documentation through to successful delivery and handover to the client.
The emphasis we put on delivering a quality product
It’s ok not to know exactly what role you see yourself doing in 5 to 10 years’ time because the great thing about a grad program like the one at Icon, is that it exposes you to all facets of the business and construction process which helps you work out your strengths and interests. Even if you have your heart set on a specific role now, you might find that you naturally excel at tasks that are suited to a completely different role, so it’s also good to be open to every opportunity.

I had a passion for the building industry ever since I started working as a labourer in school holidays.
Nicholas Brown, Ashley Murdoch and Lou Raunik. In my opinion, three of the most highly respected people within the construction industry.
Project Management for a $150m muti-building, multi-storey residential development
Constantly gaining knowledge in all facets of the building industry and further developing my skills.
Successfully delivering project after project to the highest standard of quality and striving to deliver under budget and ahead of time.
Ask as many questions as you can. Try as many roles as you can. Strive to gain as much knowledge in all areas of the business as possible to be the best you can be. Study the Graduate Programme booklet and push yourself to prove you can get through all the work in all areas of the Programme. Once you have covered all areas of Icon's Graduate Programme, I believe you will be a stand out asset to the company.

It appeared to be a dynamic industry suited to my skillset with tangible results/ outcomes.
The company had an excellent reputation in the industry. They were big enough to provide interesting and challenging projects whilst remaining personable.
I lead the project team in delivering a 12 storey student accommodation project in Carlton. I am involved in all aspects of Icon’s role in the project.
I enjoy the team-based environment and the sense of achievement in overcoming the various challenges faced on a daily basis.
Icon has an excellent reputation as a builder to work with (from a client’s perspective), work for (as a subcontractor) and work at as an employee.
Be prepared to do the hard yards early. Be realistic in your expectations of yourself, and finally, ask lots of questions and try to understand why things are done the way they are not just what needs to be done.
